Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Faiyr.

Getting started

What is Faiyr?
Faiyr is a group expense-splitting app designed for roommates, couples, and friend groups who share ongoing costs. You log shared expenses, Faiyr calculates who owes what, and you settle up whenever it's convenient. No spreadsheets, no awkward conversations.
Is Faiyr free to use?
Yes. Faiyr has a free tier that covers essential expense tracking for personal use. A Pro subscription unlocks additional groups, priority support, and upcoming premium features. You can start for free with no credit card required.
How do I invite someone to my group?
From the group screen, tap "Invite Members" to generate a secure invite link. Share it via any messaging app, email, or QR code. When the recipient opens the link on a device with Faiyr installed, they're added to the group instantly. Each link is unique and expires after 30 days.
Do all group members need a Faiyr account?
Yes. Each person needs a free Faiyr account to join a group, view balances, and add expenses. Creating an account is quick and requires only an email address.

Expenses & splitting

How does expense splitting work?
When you add an expense, you select who paid and choose how to split it: either equally across all active members, or with custom amounts for each person. Faiyr updates everyone's running balance immediately. All amounts are stored as precise integer values (no floating-point rounding errors).
What currencies does Faiyr support?
Faiyr supports most global currencies including CAD, USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, INR, BRL, JPY, KRW, and more. The currency is set when the group is created and applies to all expenses in that group. Each group can have its own currency.
Can I edit or delete an expense after adding it?
Yes. The person who added an expense, or the group owner, can edit or delete it at any time. All balance adjustments are applied automatically when a change is made. Deleted expenses are preserved in a soft-delete state so the audit trail is never lost.
How does Faiyr handle recurring expenses like rent?
At the moment Faiyr logs one-time expenses. For recurring expenses like monthly rent, most users simply add them each period, which only takes seconds. Recurring expense templates are on the product roadmap.

Balances & payments

What does my balance mean?
A positive balance means the group owes you money (you've paid more than your share). A negative balance means you owe the group. Balances are calculated in real time across all active expenses and recorded payments.
Does Faiyr process actual payments?
No. Faiyr is a tracking app, not a payment processor. You settle up using whatever method works for you (e-transfer, cash, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfer), then record the payment in Faiyr so balances update correctly. This keeps Faiyr simple, private, and globally applicable.
Will I get reminders if someone hasn't paid?
Yes. Faiyr automatically sends periodic push notifications to members with outstanding balances. You don't need to manually chase anyone. Members with a zero balance don't receive reminders.

Account & privacy

How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. Faiyr will remove you from all groups and permanently delete your account data. For compliance with Apple App Store and Google Play policies, account deletion is available directly in the app. See our Privacy Policy for details on what data is retained after deletion.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Under Settings → Export My Data, you can request a full export of your account data in JSON format. This is your right under GDPR (Article 20) and similar privacy laws. The export is delivered to your registered email address.
Who can see my expenses and balances?
Only active members of a group can view that group's expenses and balances. Your data is never visible to users outside your groups, and Faiyr does not sell or share personal financial data with third parties.
Where is my data stored?
Faiyr uses Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Functions) with data stored in Google's us-central1 region. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Point-in-time recovery is enabled for disaster recovery.
