Moving from Splitwise to Faiyr takes about two minutes
Export one group as a spreadsheet, pick the file in Faiyr, check the preview and confirm. Your expenses, payments and balances arrive in a new group.
How do you move a Splitwise group to Faiyr?
Export the group from Splitwise as a CSV file, then import that file in Faiyr under Account Settings. Faiyr shows a preview with the balances before anything is created, so you can check that the numbers match.
The three steps
-
Export your group from Splitwise
In Splitwise on the web, open the group, open the group menu and choose "Export as spreadsheet". Splitwise gives you a CSV file. If your Splitwise is not set to English, that menu item appears in your language.
-
Pick the file in Faiyr
In Faiyr, open Account Settings, then Switch from another app, and pick the file. This works in the mobile apps and in the web app at app.faiyr.app. Faiyr reads the file and tells you how many expenses, currencies and members it found.
-
Choose your name, check the preview, confirm
Tell Faiyr which name in the file is you, then look over the preview of expenses and balances. When it looks right, confirm. Faiyr creates a new group with everything in it.
What carries over
- Expenses, with date, description, amount, who paid and who owed what.
- Payments that were recorded when people settled up.
- Balances.
- Every other member, added as a virtual member. Later, each person can take over their own place through a guest link and keep their balance.
Prefer a clean start? Choose balances only and Faiyr imports one opening balance per person instead of the full history.
What does not carry over
- Receipt photos.
- Comments.
- Splitwise categories: they are kept as plain text on the expense, not as Faiyr categories.
- The original split method (equal, percentages, shares): each person's amount is kept exactly, but the name of the method is not.
What if the group used several currencies?
Faiyr converts every expense that is not in the group's currency into the group currency. It uses historical ECB rates where available, otherwise today's rate, shown before you confirm. Converting imported expenses is free.
Historical exchange rates: Frankfurter (frankfurter.dev), which publishes European Central Bank reference rates.
